Mission:

To inspire life-changing confidence in underserved youth in Colorado through access to mentorships, cultural experiences, and outdoor educational Treks.

History:

Colorado High Country Educational Treks is built on a tradition of service to community, and instilling confidence in young people from underserved areas of Denver.  Leader Dominic Lucero grew up with similar programs in Northwest Denver, and has refined the mission of the organization to inspire confidence in underserved youth through access to outdoors education.  It is increasingly clear that one of the major barriers for students of low socio-economic standing is confidence to succeed, and access to programs which can foster that important life skill.  Colorado High-Country Educational Treks is here to make sure this mission gets accomplished, and that students in Colorado are able to learn from, and enjoy the beauty of their state.

Who We Are

Dominic Lucero - Founder & Executive Director

Dominic has been an avid outdoorsman for all of his life.  He was raised in Denver's north side neighborhood, and was a participant in his Uncle's programs when he was a child.  Dominic has spent the last 15 years serving the youth of Denver as special education paraprofessional, Dean of Students, and Restorative Approaches Coordinator.  With a strong passion to give back to the community that made him who he is, Dominic is pleased and honored to be continuing his Uncle's legacy, and providing what he thinks is a game-changing opportunity for young people to experience their state's beauty, and cultivate the confidence to succeed in their lives in school and beyond.

Royal brings a wealth of experience to our organization.  He holds a Bachelors degree in sociology from CSU-Pueblo. Royal spent 5 years as a truancy reduction specialist/community advocate at Pueblo South HS, 1 year juvenile probation officer for South Carolina department of juvenile justice, and 1 year as the family, community, school advocate for Northridge Middle School in Charlotte, North Carolina.  Most recently, he has been the Restorative Justice Coordinator/Dean at Denver North High School.  Royal is also a highly qualified physical/health educator.

Edwina Lucero - Director of Communications and Marketing

Mateo Lopez-Activities Director
